Gog & Magog watch
What in the world is Gog & Magog. It will be the biggest object lesson God will use before the entire unbelieving world to show that God is indeed sovriegn. That He alone controls the destiny of the nations on earth. God will allow a massive Islamic army to attack Israel lead and armed by Russia to be destroyed on the mountains of Israel. Get informed!
Ezekiel 38
And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes. BLB (KJV) Eze 38
This is the latest info that Russia is asserting itself as THE world power. Wake up. Gods word is true and it is unfolding now in front of a sleeping world. Why... Because we don't know our bible. Here is the latest update on the escalation between Russia and NATO. Look for the EU to gel quickly and call for it's own super army asap. See this informative short video.
Russia has lost an enormous value in her economic power base. At one point 70% of her market value fell as US banks go down. Could the future war have to do with the spoils of war (booty)...Stay tuned.
For students of prophecy, the prospect of watching world events unfold toward the battle of Gog & Magog. We are seeing geo political alliances that have never been in the history of the world. Literally all the nations described in Ezekiel 38 & 39 are coming together as allies under one of two banners. Armed by Russia or Islamic run countries. Fascinating in the days this prophecy was given that was not and has not been the case until shortly after the birth of a nation called Israel.
Simply astonishing. This is a subject that all students should learn. As outlined in Isaiah chapters 40 thru 49 God gives the litmus test for who the TRUE GOD is. That test is telling the future before it happens. Only the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob has done that or can. The God of the bible is 100% accurate in all that He says and it is a rock solid place to build our lives on. Here is Isaiah 41:22 God challenges all the false gods to...
Let them bring [them] forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they [be], that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come. BLB (KJV) Isa 41
In short God establishes who He said He is and gives us prophecy to authenticate His message. The ultimate message is that He sent His only beggoten Son into the world to die for the sins of man. That is the ultimate prophecy, and that work was finished at the cross. Today we use prophecy to demonstrate that God has a plan and it is unfolding nearly daily in the news. People need the gospel. Only Jesus can set people free from sin, by repenting and turning to God. Get informed!
Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts [of armour, even] a great company [with] bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:
rsia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: [and] many people with thee.
Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
Who is Gog & Magog?
After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land [that is] brought back from the sword, [and is] gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them.
Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, [that] at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought:
Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, [that] at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places [that are now] inhabited, and upon the people [that are] gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land....
Thus saith the Lord GOD; [Art] thou he of whom I have spoken in old time by my servants the prophets of Israel, which prophesied in those days [many] years that I would bring thee against them? And it shall come to pass at the same time when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, [that] my fury shall come up in my face.
Scythian connection
The nomad Scythians (cf. Greek skythes 'Scythian' connected with the Slavonic root skit: skitat'sya 'to wander', cf. also Russian skit 'small and secluded monastery') - the ancestors of the Slavs - named the area of the Sea of Azov Temarundam matrem maris (Vasmer 1987: 17). This expression means 'The Darkness howls; the mother of the sea/death' in Proto-Slavonic. This ancient formula was preserved in the Russian fairy-tales about Mar'ya-Morevna 'Mar'ya (Mary) of the sea' (see fig. 1) (1). After many years this place name was transformed into Tamatarha. For a long time the Russians lived in the town (fortress) Tamatarha on an island washed by the Black Sea, Kerch Strait and the two branches of the river Kuban. Sometimes this fortress was called Samkrz (Vasmer 1987: 66) consisting of Russian zamok 'fortress ' and Ros 'Russians'.

Some tribes which lived near the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov in ancient time were the Proto-Slavs. The name Scythians (literally 'nomads') is associated with the Slavonic root skit, cf. Russian skitat'sya 'to wander'. Aorsi and Siraki belonged to the Sarmatae. The first name resembles the name of the Old Russian Principality Arsa, here I distinguish the root rs 'Russian'. The term Sarmatae means s ar ma-tai 'The solar (ma) people near (s) the furious (ar) people (i.e. Aryans)' (1). The term Siraki consists of si 'these' and rak 'Russian'. The name of the tribe Roksolani is indeed Roks (Russian) Alani (2). On these grounds, Scythian Araks 'the Volga river' (Grakov 1971: 19) might mean 'the Russian river'.

The Magog Identity: From Khouse
Have you ever wondered why the Biblical prophets always seem to refer to various peoples by such strange names? It's actually our fault! We keep changing the names of things. There once was a city known as Petrograd. For many years it was known as St. Petersburg. Then it was changed to Leningrad. Now it's St. Petersburg again. What will it be named a few years from now? (My friends in Russia say that in Russia, even the past is uncertain!) The capital of the old world, Byzantium, was renamed Constantinople. Now that city is known as Istanbul. This occurs even in our own country. How many of you remember when "Cape Canaveral" was renamed "Cape Kennedy"? Ten years later it became "Cape Canaveral" again.
But we do not change the names of our ancestors! So, if you were the prophet Isaiah and were called upon to speak of the Persians over a century before they emerged as an empire, how could you refer to them? You would speak of them as the descendants of Elam, the forebears of the Persians.
All humans are descended, not only from Adam, but from Noah. Noah and his three sons repopulated the entire Earth after the flood. Thus, we are all descendants of Noah's three sons: Ham, Shem, and Japheth. The genealogical records of Noah and his three sons are listed in Genesis 10, and the 70 original tribal groups described there are often called the "Table of Nations" by Biblical scholars.
Magog was one of the sons of Japheth and his descendants are often referred to by their Greek name, the Scythians. Early scholars and historians - including Josephus Flavius and the "Father of History" Herodotus - have identified Magog with the people group that has become the modern nation of Russia

CHAPTER 6.
HOW EVERY NATION WAS DENOMINATED FROM THEIR FIRST INHABITANTS.
1. Now they were the grandchildren of Noah, in honor of whom names were imposed on the nations by those that first seized upon them. Japhet, the son of Noah, had seven sons: they inhabited so, that, beginning at the mountains Taurus and Amanus, they proceeded along Asia, as far as the river Tansis, and along Europe to Cadiz; and settling themselves on the lands which they light upon, which none had inhabited before, they called the nations by their own names. For Gomer founded those whom the Greeks now call Galatians, [Galls,] but were then called Gomerites. Magog founded those that from him were named Magogites, but who are by the Greeks called Scythians. The Works of Flavius Josephus: the Antiquities of Josephus, the Wars of Josephus, the Life of Josephus, and Against Apion by Josephus

Ezekiel 39
Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I [am] against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that [is] with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and [to] the beasts of the field to be devoured. Thou shalt fall upon the open field: for I have spoken [it], saith the Lord GOD. And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I [am] the LORD.
So will I make my holy name known in the midst of my people Israel; and I will not [let them] pollute my holy name any more: and the heathen shall know that I [am] the LORD, the Holy One in Israel.
Behold, it is come, and it is done, saith the Lord GOD; this [is] the day whereof I have spoken. And they that dwell in the cities of Israel shall go forth, and shall set on fire and burn the weapons, both the shields and the bucklers, the bows and the arrows, and the handstaves, and the spears, and they shall burn them with fire seven years:
So that they shall take no wood out of the field, neither cut down [any] out of the forests; for they shall burn the weapons with fire: and they shall spoil those that spoiled them, and rob those that robbed them, saith the Lord GOD
And I will set my glory among the heathen, and all the heathen shall see my judgment that I have executed, and my hand that I have laid upon them. So the house of Israel shall know that I [am] the LORD their God from that day and forward.
And the heathen shall know that the house of Israel went into captivity for their iniquity: because they trespassed against me, therefore hid I my face from them, and gave them into the hand of their enemies: so fell they all by the sword.
According to their uncleanness and according to their transgressions have I done unto them, and hid my face from them. Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Now will I bring again the captivity of Jacob, and have mercy upon the whole house of Israel, and will be jealous for my holy name; After that they have borne their shame, and all their trespasses whereby they have trespassed against me, when they dwelt safely in their land, and none made [them] afraid.
When I have brought them again from the people, and gathered them out of their enemies' lands, and am sanctified in them in the sight of many nations; Then shall they know that I [am] the LORD their God, which
caused them to be led into captivity among the heathen: but I have gathered them unto their own land, and have left none of them any more there.
Neither will I hide my face any more from them: for I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD. BLB (KJV) Eze 39
And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for [his] only [son], and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for [his] firstborn.BLB (KJV) Zec 12

Ezekiel Chapters 38 and 39 describe the occasion in which God Himself intervenes to quell the ill-fated invasion of Israel by Magog and its allies (Persia, Cush, Phut, Libya, Gomer, Togarmah, Meshech, and Tubal). This passage also appears to anticipate the use of nuclear weapons.
Why does the Bible use such strange names? It has to - we keep changing the names of things: Petrograd = St. Petersburg = Leningrad = St. Petersburg again. (My friends in Russia remind me that ''in Russia, even the past is uncertain!'') Byzantium = Constantinople = Istanbul. Cape Canaveral = Cape Kennedy, etc. But we don’t change the names of our ancestors!
The Magog Identity
Hesiod, ''the father of Greek didactic poetry,'' identified Magog with the Scythians and southern Russia in the 7th century B.C. (Hesiod’s writings precede the Book of Ezekiel.)
Herodotus of Harlicarnassus, known as the ''Father of History,'' wrote extensively about the descendants of Magog by their Greek name, the Scythians, in the 5th century B.C. Flavius Josephus records that Magogians were called ''Scythians'' by the Greeks. Philo, in the 1st century, identifies Magog with southern Russia.
Defense in Depth
One reason Herodotus gave so much detailed information about the Scythians was that he wanted to describe the people who had succeeded in defeating the Persian king, Darius. Darius I crossed the Bosporus and invaded Scythia. The Scythians, however, had devised an unusual tactic for conducting warfare.
The Persians expected to crush the Scythians in a decisive engagement, but the Scythians avoided such a battle. They retreated deep into their own territory, laying to waste the region and wearing down the enemy by means of small raids.
In pursuing the Scythians, Darius soon came to appreciate the cunning of these ''partisan'' tactics: Reaching the Volga, Darius, acknowledging defeat, had to retreat from Scythia in shame.
In 1812, when Napoleon entered Russia, Field Marshall Kutuzov’s similar strategy - including the sacrifice of Moscow itself - resulted in reducing Napoleon’s Grande Armée from 453,000 to less than 10,000 and yielded the infamous defeat now commemorated in Tchaikovsky’s Overture of 1812.
In 1941, Hitler suffered a similar defeat from the same Scythian strategy: pressing a quick advance deep into the Russian interior only to have his Wehrmacht swallowed up in the harsh Russian winter.
Turkey
All the allies of Magog are in position, except one (watch Turkey!). Af-ter nearly two decades of waiting, Turkey has finally begun official negotiations for admittance into the European Union. The two largest impediments to Turkey’s EU membership are its predominantly Muslim population and its refusal to recognize the island nation of Cyprus (an EU member). This could push a wounded Turkey back into the arms of the nationalists and hard-line Islamic fundamentalists.
Russia Today
Modern Russian history dates from before the fall of the USSR - beginning with Yuri Andropov’s rise to power in November 1982. As someone who was in charge of the KGB, in a state where information was tightly compartmentalized, Andropov came into office knowing something that would not become apparent to the rest of the world for years: Not only was the Soviet Union losing the Cold War, but it was dangerously close to economic collapse.
The Andropov Doctrine
The West had long since surpassed the Soviets in every measure that mattered: from economic output, to worker productivity, to military reach. Andropov was convinced that, in time, Moscow would fall…barring a massive change in course.
Andropov’s plan was to secure money, managerial skills and non-military technologies from the West in order to refashion a more functional Soviet Union. But the Soviets had nothing significant to trade: they did not have the cash, they lacked goods that the West wanted, and Andropov had no intention of trading away Soviet military technology (which, even 15 years after the Cold War ended, still gives its U.S. counterpart a good run for its money).
In the end, Andropov knew that the Soviet Union had only one thing the West wanted: geopolitical space. So space was what he gave. This continued the traditional Scythian ''defense in depth'' strategy!
Subsequent leaders - Gorbachev, Yeltsin, and Putin after them - continued this as well. The one common thread uniting Russian leaders over the past quarter-century has been the belief that without a fundamental remake, Russia would not survive, and the only way to gain the tools necessary for that remake was to give up influence. Consequently, everything - from Cuba to Poland to Afghanistan to Vietnam - was surrendered, set free or otherwise abandoned.
This was the strategy for nearly 25 years, until the loss of the Ukraine raised the specter of Russian dissolution. The Russians have now stepped away from the Andropov Doctrine, abandoned the implicit bargain within it, reformed the government under the leadership of pragmatists loyal to Putin, and have begun pushing back against American and Western pressure.
Demographically, the country is in terrible shape: their population is growing simultaneously older, smaller and sicklier. The number of Muslims is growing, while the number of ethnic Russians is declining. Nearly all of the economic growth that has occurred since the 1998 financial crisis has stemmed from either an artificially weak currency or rising energy prices, and there are echoes of Soviet financial overextension as occurred after the 1973 and 1981 oil price booms.
The START Treaty
The treaty, which took force in 1991, obliges the United States and Russia to maintain no more than 6,000 nuclear warheads apiece. It expires in 2009, and the United States is not anxious to renew it.
Among American defense planners, there is a belief that the vast majority of weapons in the Russian nuclear program is nearing the end of its reliable life-cycle, and that replacing it would be well beyond Russia’s financial capacity. From the U.S. point of view, there is no reason to subject itself to a new treaty that would limit U.S. options, particularly when the Russia of today is far less able to support an arms race than the Soviet Union of yesteryear. The weapons that will be used in the Magog Invasion, or the Battle of Armageddon, may already be in inventory today.
Russia-Israeli Relations
During the 1948 Arab-Israeli War, Russia helped Israel obtain arms to fight the contingent of hostile countries that included Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Jordan. However, after this initial cooperation, relations between the two countries quickly soured with Russia threatening to attack Israel during both the 1956 Sinai Campaign and the 1973 Arab-Israeli war. Russia severed diplomatic relations with Israel following the 1967 Six-Day War, then aligned itself with Arab nationalist regimes and gave support to Palestinian militants. Russia also strongly opposed the Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982. Even today, Russia remains allied with Israel’s enemies.
Vladimir Putin
Since Putin took power in 1999, he has established unrivaled dominance of both houses of parliament; reasserted control over the country’s huge energy industry; forced the closure of the last independent national television network; strengthened Russia’s ties to its former communist allies; and, employed what he calls ''managed democracy.''
Putin has manipulated elections, silenced critics, and gradually tight-ened his grip on the nation. He is a former KGB officer and reports estimate that one in every four of Putin’s government has a background in the military or security services.
In recent months, Putin has faced growing criticism for restricting democratic freedoms and concentrating his presidential powers. Once thought to be a growing capitalist ally, Russia is now returning to its Soviet roots. Putin has called on Israel to withdraw ''from all the occupied Arab lands back to the June 1967 border'' and stressed the necessity of a complete Israeli withdrawal from the Golan Heights.
Growing Anti-Semitism in Russia
During the Soviet era, more than a million Jews fled Russia to escape state-sponsored anti-Semitism, and in recent years there has been a dramatic resurgence of anti-Jewish sentiment. In 2005, following a string of racially motivated attacks on Jews, a letter with several hundred signatures, including those of 19 members of the Duma (the Russian parlia-ment), was sent to Russia’s prosecutor-general. The letter claimed that the Jews themselves were responsible for inciting anti-Semitic violence and accused them of vandalizing and burning down synagogues to garner sympathy. It also called for Jewish organizations in Russia to be investigated and banned.
The Palestinians
Russia has further earned Israel’s ire by announcing plans to provide the Palestinian security forces with two reconnaissance helicopters and 50 armored vehicles. Russia has also sent its military experts and security personnel to Gaza to help train Palestinian security forces. After Palestinian terrorists fired rockets from Gaza into southern Israel recently, the Israelis found missile fragments belonging to a Russian designed BM-21 rocket. For the last four years, Palestinians had been using homemade Kassam rockets. This was the first time a factory-made rocket had been fired into Israel by the Palestinians.
Allies in the Middle East
After losing the Mid-East foothold provided by Saddam Hussein’s Iraq, the Russians have been building a new axis of power based on ties with Turkey, Iran and Syria. Russia is now Turkey’s second-largest trading partner, with a volume of $10 billion in trade per year; Russia strengthened ties with Iran by supplying it with nuclear-related technologies; and, Russia and Syria have made plans to increase diplomatic and military cooperation.
Syria
Russia has since written-off nearly 75% - approximately $10 billion - of Syria’s Soviet-era debt. Russia also intends to proceed with plans to sell SS-26 and SS-18 missiles to Syria, despite U.S. and Israeli opposition. The SS-26 is a highly mobile missile that uses satellite guidance systems to attain maximum accuracy. With a range of 180 miles, it can carry a 1,000-pound warhead to most targets inside Israel; the SA-18 missiles are some of the most sophisticated shoulder-held anti-aircraft missiles on the market and Israel is concerned the weapons may fall into the hands of Palestinian terrorists.
The SA-18 shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile uses its enhanced seeker to hit aerial targets, such as jet fighters, head-on. They have a relatively short range of 5.2 km and a maximum altitude of 3.5 km, but they can be used to destroy planes, helicopters and low-flying unmanned planes.
Syria is on the U.S. State Department’s list of countries that sponsor terrorism. It gives ''substantial amounts of financial, training, weapons, ex-plosives, political, diplomatic, and organizational aid'' to terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Hamas and other radical Islamic and Palestinian organizations, many of which are headquartered in Damascus. Many experts believe that a large-scale confrontation between Syria and Israel could be on the near horizon, which makes Syria’s growing relationship with nations such as Iran and Russia even more concerning.
Russia’s Black Sea Fleet
Russia may be planning to move its Black Sea Fleet to the Syrian port of Tartus. Russia’s Black Sea Fleet currently uses a range of naval facilities in the Ukrainian region of Crimea under a 1997 agreement that allowed Russia to continue its presence in its neighboring former Soviet republic for rent of $93 million per year. The fleet is not scheduled to withdraw until 2017, but the Ukraine has demanded that a new agreement be signed and negotiations between Russia and the Ukraine have stalled. Russia has started dredging at the Syrian port of Tartus, where it maintains a logistical supply point with a possible eye to turning it into a full-fledged naval base. Russia has also launched a modernization project at the port of Latakia, 90 km to the north of Tartus.
An anonymous source at the Defense Ministry indicated that Moscow was planning to form a squadron led by the Moskva, the Black Sea Fleet’s flagship missile cruiser, within the next three years. The squadron would operate in the Mediterranean Sea on a permanent basis.
Iran
Russia intends to sell Iran up to 30 Tor M-1 surface-to-air missiles, worth $700 million. Russia has been the beneficiary of multiple lucrative contracts to help Iran develop nuclear energy and has also been helping Iran build its nuclear reactor at Bushehr. Russia, which has veto power on the UN Security Council, has also threatened to block any attempt by the U.S. to impose UN sanctions on Iran.
Russian-Syrian-Iranian Axis
by Hal Lindsey Magog Update: Russian-Syrian-Iranian Axis - Hal Lindsey - Koinonia House
For students of Bible prophecy, even the title of this communiqué should set off alarm sirens. I just received some electrifying intelligence data - first, from the DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s briefing, and second, from some personal intelligence sources (which I carefully guard) that confirm Debka’s report.
Russia, Iran and Syria have entered a defense pact that is in the process of altering the balance of power in the entire Middle East. Russia’s part in the pact has been kept relatively secret for a long time. But the facts reveal a long, steady Russian commitment to the Iranian nuclear program and arms supply to Syria.
A Mossad general shared with me in confidence that he had personally traced the hiring and importation to Iran of 283 of the defunct Soviet Union’s top nuclear and missile scientists. This meeting took place in February of 1991.
I shared this information with no one until nine months later, when it was first made public (although, strangely, not followed up by the mainstream media). All Russian leaders continued and expanded this agreement to this day, especially our supposed friend, Vladimir Putin.
Russia has helped the Iranian nuclear program from its inception. Hundreds of Russian scientists, with their families, live around some twenty scattered nuclear-related facilities. Russian “Spetznaz soldiers” (Special Forces) guard all the key nuclear facilities.
Iran has had some help on missile development from the North Koreans. But even their missiles are based upon Russian designs. The unmistakable culprit in China, North Korea and Iran’s nuclear development has been the Soviet Union and continued by Russia.
The Soviet Union’s motivation for helping China and North Korea was primarily ideological. Russia’s primary reason is hard cash; although now, it is taking on a strategic importance as well. So, here are the disturbing, hard facts about what is taking place in what can only be viewed as a dangerous anti-Western strategy in the form of a Russian-Syrian-Iranian Axis.
The first part of this strategy was, as I said above, Russia enabling Iran to produce deliverable nuclear warheads. The second part was the formation of the recent mutual defense pact between Iran and Syria. The foreign ministers of Iran and Syria, Mostafa Najjar and Hassan Turkmani, signed the pact in Tehran on June 15th, 2006.
Debka’s intelligence sources unveiled a disturbing clause in the agreement that was reported to President Bush by U.S. Intelligence. This report disclosed:
“The clause speaks of more than one battery of upgraded Shehab-3 surface-to-surface missiles to be deployed on the 13,000-foot Jabal Ash Shanin ridges towering over central Syria. The latest Syrian-Iranian exchanges are reported by DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s intelligence sources as auguring the early dispatch from Tehran of a deputation of officers to take up position at al Qadnus, east of the Syrian port of Tartus, and along the road linking the port to Jabal Ash Shanin. This team will act as the vanguard of the Iranian missile force: to operate the missile station, check out the ground, and fix its precise location.
“Senior intelligence officials warned the U.S. President that this deployment would not just throw the entire Middle East balance of strength out of kilter, but directly menace American bases located as far as West and East Europe and the Central Asian republics, including those located on the shores of the oil-rich Caspian Sea. This puts virtually all of Europe within range of the soon-coming nuclear-tipped Iranian missiles - and at the whim of Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Remember him? He is the one who believes Allah has chosen him to fulfill an “end time” Muslim prophecy by starting a world apocalypse in which the long-awaited “Mahdi” (Muslim Messiah) will appear and subject all survivors to Allah.
As if this isn’t bad enough news, there is something even more alarming developing within this new axis of evil. Russia is now making moves to protect Syria and its Shehab-3 missile base.
This is what DEBKA-News-Weekly reported: “Our sources have observed the Russians dredging the port of Tartus, Syria’s second most important Mediterranean port, with a view to expanding their logistical supply point there to a fully-equipped naval base, possibly to serve the Black Sea Fleet warships when they are redeployed from the Ukrainian port of Sevastopol. It is designed to be built up into the permanent base for the fleet led by the RFS Moskva (TG Flag) missile cruiser and the RFS Azov landing ship within the next three years.
“On February 27, 2006, DEBKAfile’s exclusive sources found the Moskva and Asov heading into the Mediterranean on Feb. 5, escorted by a Russian military tug, to take part in the NATO marine exercise Operation Active Endeavor, which was to practice counter-measures against nuclear and other WMD smugglers. NATO chiefs, and American generals in particular, attached great importance to Russia’s participation in the exercise. NATO secretary Jaap de Hoop Scheffer had intended to make the gesture of being the North Atlantic Organization chief to visit a Russian flagship. The visit was cancelled when it was discovered that the three Russian fleet vessels would be paying an official call at the Syrian port of Latakia.
“The arrival of the Russian task force in Tartus in March marked the opening of the Russian base. Our military experts note that the Missile Cruiser Moskva is armed with the weapons, radar and electronic gear of an [aircraft] carrier hunter.
“The American intelligence briefing for the U.S. President further disclosed that sophisticated Russian air defense systems are to be installed for the dual purpose of protecting the Tartus Naval Base and the Shehab-3 missile emplacements. DEBKA-Net-Weekly’s military sources identify the system as the S-300PMU-2. It will be operated by Russian military crews, not in Syrian hands. This air defense system is comparable to the American Patriot, but is more effective. The version to be deployed in Syria is geared to intercept ballistic missiles. It has the great advantage of being ready to fire five minutes after receiving orders …”
This explains why Iran has blatantly defied the world and continued developing nuclear warheads, which are closer to becoming operational than we dare believe.
Second, it explains the reason why the Iranian and Syrian defense ministers signed a mutual defense pact last June 15th.
Third, it gives the reason for Hezbollah launching a war with Israel when they did. It was to divert the G-8 leaders from seriously debating action about the Iranian nuclear threat. And Vladimir Putin played a masterful game of concealing what his forces are doing.
Fourth, it explains why Syria and Iran are unafraid to openly support Hezbollah in their war with Israel and support terrorist that target U.S. troops in Iraq. Russia is in the background guaranteeing their protection. Debka reports that they found data indicating that Russia helped persuade Syrian President Bashir Assad to accept the placement of Iranian missiles on their soil by hinting that “it is part of their own deepening strategic plans for Syria.”
What is most important is that all this is setting up Ezekiel’s 2600-year-old prophecy in Ezekiel Chapter 38. Persia, or modern Iran, is listed as chief among the Muslim nations Russia will lead into an all-out assault against Israel. This is predicted to be the first battle of the war of Armageddon.
One nation that does not seem to be listed is Syria. I believe this is the result of actions it is now taking against Israel. Isaiah’s prophecy about Damascus in the last days is going to be soon fulfilled.
Twenty-seven hundred years ago, Isaiah warned, “An oracle concerning Damascus: See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins … In that day the glory of Jacob will fade; the fat of his body will waste away.” (Isaiah 17:1, 4 NIV)
To establish the time of this event, look at these factors:
- First, Damascus is one of the oldest continuously populated cities on earth. It has never been totally destroyed - yet.
- Second, it is in a context of events that lead up to the catastrophes that precede the Lord Jesus’ Second Coming.
- Third, it is far enough away from that event that Jacob (Israel) is enduring terrible circumstances.
- Fourth, Syria and the tribal name of its forefathers are not mentioned in the Russian-led Muslim Confederacy that launches Armageddon in the middle of the Tribulation.
All of this leads me to believe that Damascus will be destroyed before the Tribulation begins. I believe that Damascus is about to so threaten Israel’s existence, by either launching or furnishing bio-chemical weapons or radioactive dirty bombs, that Israel will nuke them. Israel has sworn that it will implement the Samson-Option against any nation that attacks them with any form of weapons of mass destruction. That means a thermonuclear strike. This may soon happen to Syria. This, in turn, will so terrify the world that it will be ripe to embrace the Antichrist when he is unveiled. And that could be very, very soon.
Thank God that you have received the gift of pardon that Jesus purchased by dying in your place under the judgment for your sins. But if you haven’t received this free gift of pardon and accepted Jesus into your life, now is the time. Don’t put it off. It is like playing Russian roulette with eternity. Pray right now and receive your forgiveness. Ask Jesus Christ to come into your life and make it what He wants it to be. He will give you new desires, new joy and a purpose for living. Do it now.
Scythia :
In order to plan their campaign, the Persians proceeded to a geographical survey of the Scythian territory. Following the ancient practice, the survey started by establishing a geodetic square. Herodotus reports (IV.101):
Scythia, then, which is square in shape, and has two of its sides reaching down to the sea, extends inland to the same distance that it stretches along the coast, and is equal every way. For it is a ten days’ journey from the Ister to the Borysthenes and ten more from the Borysthenes to the Palus Maeotis, while the distance from the coast inland to the country of the Melanchlaeni, who dwell above Scythia, is a journey of twenty days. I reckon the day’s journey at two hundred stadia. Thus the two sides which run straight inland are four thousand stadia each, and the transverse sides at right angles to these are also of the same length, which gives the full size of Scythia.
This geodetic square had an extension of 10° by 10° and included the area from the mouth of the Danube to the mouth of the Don and extended in latitude from the northern coast of the Black Sea to almost the latitude of Moscow. This geodetic square, or elements of it, most likely were part of an established tradition.

An excellent Hebrew Sage resource. In short they see Magog as the general area of center on Middle East. Interesting conjecture, but does not fit many of the other details. The "Far North" (extreme, uttermost) is described Ezekiel 39:2, It is only Russia who is arming not the Islamic nations. Ancient historians indicate it is the area of Russia known as Scythia.

Libya's Qaddafi to visit Russia Oct. 31 - paper
RIA Novosti - Russia - Libya's Qaddafi to visit Russia Oct. 31 - paper
MOSCOW, October 20 (RIA Novosti) - Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi will pay his first visit to Russia in more than 20 years in late October, a Russian business daily said on Monday, citing a Foreign Ministry source.
Vedomosti said deals to supply arms to Libya worth more than $2 billion could be signed during Qaddafi's visit.
Qaddafi, who has ruled the oil and gas-rich African state since 1969, will arrive in Moscow on October 31, the paper said. He last visited the Russian capital in 1985, before the breakup of the Soviet Union.
The paper said, referring to an official in the Russian Technology Corporation, that contracts had been discussed on the supply of 16 SU-30 MKI Flanker-H multirole fighters, T-90 tanks, and TOR-M2E air defense systems to Libya.
Sarkozy leads EU trio to Moscow
French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been holding talks in Moscow with the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev about the crisis in Georgia.
He is joined by the EU foreign policy chief, Javier Solana, and the European Commission head, Jose Manuel Barroso.
Mr Sarkozy was pressing Russia to meet the terms of the ceasefire agreement and withdraw its troops from Georgia.
Russia says the deal allows it to keep peacekeepers in several buffer zones around two breakaway Georgian regions.
Ahead of the talks, Mr Sarkozy said the EU was "united" in its position, adding that "we will defend our convictions forcefully".

Analysis: Kremlin sees a threat, Nato an exercise
A provocative build-up of Nato warships in the Black Sea or a routine naval presence engaged in nothing out of the ordinary?
On the face of it, American and other Nato warships there outnumber the Russian vessels but, according to the alliance’s military headquarters at Mons in Belgium and the American European Command HQ, the six ships (and one extra on the way) are all involved in preplanned training and exercising or in delivering humanitarian aid to the Georgians.
To the Russians, however, who have dispatched one guided missile cruiser, the Moskva, and two missile boats to the port of Sukhumi in the breakaway Georgian enclave of Abkhazia, the Western naval presence looks threatening. To counterbalance the perceived build-up the Russians are said to be massing three destroyers, two frigates, five corvettes and scores of missile boats at the Sevastopol naval base leased from Ukraine.

Russian President Says He's Not Afraid of Cold War
MOSCOW — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday that he is not afraid of a new Cold War, but does not seek it.
"We are not afraid of anything, including the prospect of a new Cold War," Medvedev was quoted as saying Tuesday by the ITAR-Tass news agency. "But we don't want it and in this situation everything depends on the position of our partners."
The statement comes hours after Medvedev recognized the independence of two Georgian rebel provinces, defying the West. The recognition follows a short but intense war with Western-allied Georgia earlier this month.

An emergency summit of EU leaders in Brussels denounced the "disproportionate" Russian action and the Kremlin's "unacceptable" recognition of the two breakaway provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
The leaders did agree to a call by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to freeze negotiations with Moscow on a new EU-Russia strategic partnership but offered little else by way of concrete action..
The heads of state gathered to respond to Russia's military action against Georgia and its recognition of the country's two breakaway regions.

What kinds of arms does Russia sell to Iran?
Since 1992, Russia has sold Iran hundreds of major weapons systems, including twenty T-72 tanks, ninety-four air-to-air missiles, and a handful of combat aircraft like the MiG-29. Late last year, Russia agreed to sell Iran a $700 million surface-to-air missile defense system (SA-15 Gauntlet) along with thirty TOR M-1 air-defense missile systems, ostensibly to defend its soon-to-be-complete, Russian-built nuclear reactor at Bushehr. Moscow also plans to upgrade Tehran’s Su-24, MiG-29 aircraft, and T-72 battle tanks. Iran has shown interest in S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Russia and Belarus, which can intercept enemy aircraft ninety to 180 miles away. Michael Eisenstadt, director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy’s Military and Security Studies Program, says Iran is building up its naval presence. In April 2006, the Iranians claimed to have tested a high-speed torpedo—similar to the Russian-made VA-111 Shkval—capable of destroying large warships or submarines. Israel said Thursday it is opposed to Russian plans to stage a Middle East peace conference in Moscow within the coming months as a follow-up to the recent Annapolis summit.
In explaining their reservations, government officials in Jerusalem cite the need to focus on bilateral talks with the Palestinians "and not be dragged onto a slippery slope of opening negotiations on other issues like Syria and Lebanon during the present time."

Analysis: Russia sends message with Georgia conflict
LONDON — In crushing Georgia, Russia has obtained control over new territory, weakened a neighbor that had closely aligned itself with the United States and sent a message to other neighboring nations that it's a major force to be reckoned with, analysts said.
"This very much shows that Russia calls the shots in the region," said James Nixey, who heads the Russia and Eurasia program for the London foreign policy think tank Chatham House. "It shows that when Russia wants to throw its weight around, it can."
Russian forces have full control of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, another breakaway province. Both have populations that have acted independently from Georgia and had aligned themselves with Moscow for the last 16 years.
Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili said as much Tuesday, telling thousands of Georgians in an afternoon speech downtown in the capital Tblisi that his government will declare the two regions occupied Russian territory.

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert signalled reluctance on Wednesday to attend a Middle East peace summit proposed by Russia, but did not rule it out.
"I think, quite frankly, as I said to (Russian Foreign Minister Sergei) Lavrov that, you know, what we need in order to make peace in the Middle East is to see the two sides sitting together and talk rather than going to international conventions," Olmert told reporters in English.
Russian officials said last week Moscow was preparing to host a Middle East peace conference this year to try to relaunch talks between Israel and Syria about the occupied Golan Heights.
Lavrov said during a visit to Syria the conference would be a follow-up to a U.S.-hosted meeting in Annapolis in November that relaunched peace talks between the Jewish state and the Palestinians.
Peace talks between Israel and Syria collapsed in 2000 over the extent of a proposed Israeli withdrawal from the Golan, a strategic plateau that Israel occupied in the 1967 Middle East war.

Syria planned to supply Iran with nuclear fuel, Israel says
Israel believes that Syria was planning to supply Iran with spent nuclear fuel for reprocessing into weapons-grade plutonium from the site it bombed last September, and which is currently being inspected by the UN's nuclear watchdog.
The claim from an adviser to Israel's national security council, came yesterday as speculation mounts about a possible Israeli attack on Iran. The Israeli government officially backs UN sanctions to force Tehran to halt its uranium enrichment but has little faith they will succeed.
Details about the alleged Syrian reactor and the Israeli raid remain shrouded in secrecy. Syria denies it has or had a covert nuclear weapons programme and insists the Israelis hit an ordinary military structure being built at al-Kibar, in the country's north-eastern desert.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev says Georgia must pull out of South Ossetia
Bush earlier today had urged Moscow to halt the bombing immediately saying attacks by Russia outside the war zone of South Ossetia marked a "dangerous escalation" of the crisis.
"I'm deeply concerned about the situation in Georgia," Bush said from the Beijing Olympics. "The attacks are occurring in regions of Georgia far from the zone of conflict in South Ossetia. They mark a dangerous escalation in the crisis."
He said Georgia's territorial integrity must be respected and "we call for an end to the Russian bombings".

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's president on Tuesday blamed the U.S. and other "big powers" for global ills such as nuclear proliferation and AIDS, and accused them of exploiting the U.N. for their own gain and the developing world's loss.
But, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, time was on the poor countries' side.
"The big powers are going down," Ahmadinejad told foreign ministers of the Nonaligned Movement meeting in Tehran. "They have come to the end of their power, and the world is on the verge of entering a new, promising era."
In Turkey, Bombs and Court Case Fuel Tensions.
ISTANBUL -- As Turkey's highest court convened Monday to weigh whether to ban the country's ruling party, the death toll mounted in a deadly attack the night before that officials are blaming on terrorism.
Two bombings -- apparently coordinated blasts from explosives detonated in garbage bins in a busy Istanbul square -- left 17 people dead, five of them children with 150 people injured, Turkish authorities said.
Officials signaled they believe the explosions were the work of the separatist Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK. A PKK leader denied involvement in the attacks.
The group, listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S., operates out of remote mountain posts in northern Iraq and has battled the Turkish army for years. Hours before the attack in Istanbul, Turkish bomber jets targeted PKK positions in Iraq.
